Welcome to the Minnesota Literacy Council!
Lo_Res_Volunteer_with_class
The Minnesota Literacy Council (MLC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving literacy throughout our state. We offer literacy services for: adults, at-risk children, native-English speakers and recent immigrants. We have designed our Web site to serve learners, volunteers and literacy advocates.

  • If you or someone you know needs a little extra help with reading or math, wants to attend English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, or would like to learn about GED or citizenship programs, visit our Adult Literacy Hotline, a database of nearly 400 local literacy programs around Minnesota.

  • If you want to become a volunteer tutor or assist literacy programs in other ways, click on "Volunteer!"  There are many ways to offer your time, talent or resources to the

literacy cause. If you would like to help improve literacy in Minnesota through a financial gift, click "Donate."

  • If you are a current volunteer tutor or someone active in the field of Adult Basic Education (ABE), we've posted lots of teaching tools for you in our "Tutor Resource Center" section.

  • And if you would like to learn more about Minnesota Literacy Council programs and services, use the navigation bar at left to explore our site!
