AmeriCorps*VISTA Program Manager
Seeking individual to manage the AmeriCorps*VISTA grant sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) overseeing approximately 40 VISTA members in more than 30 organizations. This position solicits and maintains partnerships with community agencies that strive to alleviate poverty through high-quality, innovative literacy programming and oversees the recruitment, selection, hiring, placement, retention and support of VISTA members and supervisors to ensure project success.
Primary responsibilities of the AmeriCorps*VISTA Program Manager include:
· Review and approve applicants for yearlong AmeriCorps*VISTA positions; supervise training and orientation; monitor and support AmeriCorps*VISTA projects
· Actively recruit new yearlong AmeriCorps*VISTA sites through annual Request for Proposal (RFP) process with special emphasis on fostering projects outside of the Twin Cities metro area
· Make site visits; train AmeriCorps*VISTA site supervisors in CNCS and MLC policies
· Recruit, interview, hire, train and supervise AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader annually
· Maintain regular contact with AmeriCorps*VISTA site supervisors, AmeriCorps*VISTA members, and Minnesota CNCS state office staff to ensure effective placement and high quality results
· Oversee all aspects of statewide Summer Reads program through management of Summer Reads Coordinator; ensure appropriate AmeriCorps*VISTA placements, good site supervision, strong community partnerships and high quality results for children
· Assist in securing adequate funding for Summer Reads program
· Ensure reports are timely and effective in showing program results; ensure budget compliance
· Ensure compliance with all federal and CNCS regulations and guidelines
· Provide technical assistance to approximately 40 yearlong AmeriCorps*VISTA members and their supervisors
· Oversee development and maintenance of AmeriCorps*VISTA section of the MLC Web site
· Manage MLC VISTA account through Formsite.com for all online applications, reports and surveys
· Participate in program meetings, management team meetings, and other meetings
· Assist with recruitment and outreach events
Qualifications for this position include:
· Bachelor’s degree in management, public policy or related field, and 2-4 years progressively responsible experience in nonprofit program coordination
· Experience in developing and managing literacy programs for the following populations: ESL, GED, children or teens
· Experience with Americorps*VISTA either as a member of the program or coordinating an Americorps*VISTA program
· Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
· Ability to work independently and with diverse groups
· Experience preparing and managing budgets essential; experience working with government funding highly desirable
· Computer proficiency, including experience with MS Office software, email and internet
· Commitment to literacy and/or social causes
· Experience managing multi-site projects in diverse communities throughout the state helpful
· Ability to travel occasionally to locations within metro and across Minnesota (10-15% of time), including some overnight stays
