Focus: Comparison Shopping – store survey (Reading for Life, volume 2, unit 16: Comparison Shopping
Objectives: Learners will be able to compare prices of items at different stores in order to identify the cheapest store.
Key Vocabulary: cheapest, most expensive, products, information, estimate, bargain, grocery, consumers, to compare, comparison shopping, best deal, survey, items, price, good buy
Topics to Review: food vocabulary, food categories (dairy, meat, etc.), prices
Materials: circulars from several different grocery stores, receipts
Procedure:
Real-life application:
Discuss different supermarkets in the area. T asks “Which supermarkets do you think are cheaper? More expensive?” “Are there supermarkets you go to for particular items? Why?”
Students look through circulars to find prices of similar items. Ask students: “Which store has the best deal on that item?”
Students do the same activity in pairs.
