Greater Minnesota Community Partner Site Request for Proposals

To complete your application, and have it be under consideration, you need to sign and submit the Site Supervisor Agreement at the bottom of the page. You can submit it by mail or fax. 

RFPs and Demographic Information forms are to be completed online by Thursday, April 17, 2008. 

 

Site Supervisor agreements are to be mailed or faxed to the Minnesota Literacy Council by Friday, April 25th, 2008, (located at the bottom of this page).

Role of the Summer Reads VISTA Sites

1. Direct and Meaningful Service Relating to Literacy– In agreeing to host at least 2 Summer Reads VISTAs, site supervisors agree to provide the VISTAs with an opportunity for direct and meaningful service

2.   SupervisionThe site supervisor provides day-to-day supervision of the Summer Reads VISTAs. 

3.  CommunicationThe site supervisor should facilitate open communication with Summer Reads VISTAsThe site supervisor should facilitate open communication with other staff

4.      Evaluation – The site supervisor agrees to complete the member performance evaluation mentioned for each Summer Reads VISTA. 

 

Prohibited Activities for Summer Reads VISTAs:

  • Member activities may not include clerical work, menial tasks, administration, fundraising, research or other support activities. 
  • Engage in any effort to influence legislation, including state or local ballot initiatives or lobbying for your program;
  • Engage in partisan political activities or other activities designed to influence the outcome of an election to any public office;
  • Organize or take part in political demonstrations or rallies;
  • Organize or participate in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes;
  • Assignments that displace organizational employees;
  • Impair existing contracts for services or collective bargaining agreements;
  • Participate in, or endorse, events or activities that are likely to include advocacy for or against political parties, political platforms, political candidates, proposed legislation, or elected officials;
  • Engage in religious instruction; conduct worship services; provide instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship; construct or operate facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship; maintain facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship; or engage in any form of religious proselytization;
  • Provide a direct benefit to a for-profit entity, a labor union, a partisan political organization, or in general, an organization engaged in the religious activities described in the preceding bullet;
  • Activities that pose a significant risk to the member;
  • Assist, promote or deter union organizing.

 

Selection Process and Criteria

 

Completed proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • The extent to which the project supports the Summer Reads and AmeriCorps*VISTA missions, goals and requirements
  • The extent to which the organization and project have an early childhood literacy focus (grades K-3) and need for additional volunteer literacy tutors
  • The ability and dedication of the organization to provide a supportive and safe work environment for two or more Summer Reads VISTAs to work one-on-one or in small groups with K-3 children
  • The compatibility of the organization’s schedule with the Summer Reads program schedule.
  • Program site(s) must be located in a city or town where the Summer Reads program is already established.
