Guess the Word

Purpose:

To review vocabulary

Preparation time:

None

Materials:

None

Procedure:

  1. Decide what vocabulary theme you would like to review.
  2. Send one student from the class out of the classroom. The rest of the class should choose one word from the vocabulary theme. For example, if you were reviewing transportation, the class might pick “taxi” as the word.
  3. Call the student back in to the classroom.
  4. Each of his/her classmates should give a clue about the word so the student can guess what the word is. Lower-level students may give one-word clues or short phrases. Higher-level students can give one-sentence clues. The “guesser” may make a guess after each clue.

            Example: Taxi

Student 1: It can be yellow.

Student 2: It goes on the street.

            Student 3: Somebody drives it.

Student 4: You can call it to pick you up.
