What does it mean to be an AmeriCorps*VISTA member? AmeriCorps*VISTA members commit to serving one full year at a school, nonprofit organization, or government agency to help eliminate poverty in their communities. Instead of working directly with clients, though, VISTAs are more like the "behind the scenes" folks who are creating programs, recruiting volunteers, and developing community partnerships.
What are the benefits of becoming an AmeriCorps*VISTA member? Aside from having an incredibly rewarding year of experience serving your community, VISTA also provides the following benefits:
Choice of $5,350
Education Award or $1,500 post-service stipend
Modest living
allowance (about $430 bi-weekly living allowance)
$550 relocation
allowance (for those relocating to serve)
Healthcare benefits
Childcare assistance
(if eligible)
Federal student
loan forbearance or deferment
One year of
noncompetitive status for a federal government job
Extensive training
and valuable experience

What are the requirements for becoming an AmeriCorps*VISTA member? To be a VISTA member, you must be at least 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen, national,
