Purpose: to practice intonation, stress and rhythm
Preparation Time: 5+ minutes
Materials: whiteboard and markers
Preparation: create a short list of 8-10 words or short sentences that can be written on board. For example:
- I love you
- Oh
- Hello
- Good morning
- How are you?
- Well
- Please
- You
- Yes
- No
Procedure:
- Do the first one together and talk about what difference the intonation makes to the meaning in each case or in which circumstances this intonation might be used.
- Now choose another word or sentence and ask the students to say it in as many different ways as possible. Discuss meaning with the group or model a response.
