Letter Concentration

Purpose:

To recognize and match upper- and lower-case forms of letters

Preparation time:

20-25 minutes to make and cut out cards

Materials:

Enough sets of cards with upper-case letters and lower-case letters written on them for pairs or small groups in the class.

Preparation:

Choose 5-10 letters you have been practicing in class. Make a worksheet with the letters written out in upper case and lower case so that you can cut it into cards.

Make enough photocopies of the worksheet so there is one set of all letters for each pair or small group in the class.

Cut out the cards and shuffle each group's set.

Procedure:

  1. Give a set of cards to each pair or group.
  2. They lay all the cards out face down on the table.
  3. Learners take turns turning up two of the cards, trying to match an upper-case letter with a lower-case letter. If a learner has a match he/she keeps those cards and gets another turn. If not, play passes to the next player.
  4. When play finishes, each player counts the number of matches he/she has.
