Materials:

Listening material: a conversation between two people works well.

Preparation:

Find listening material. Prepare one task for all learners that focuses on the main idea. For half the class, prepare a task that focuses on details in the listening. For the other half of the students, prepare a task that relates to the speakers, their relationship, attitudes and emotions during the conversation.

Procedure:

1. Give all learners the main idea task. Listen to the material. Check the learners' answers.
2. Give half of the learners the speaker task and the other half the details task.
3. Listen to the material as many times as necessary (without checking the answers).
4. Learners who did the details task exchange answers with learners who did the speaker task, so that they are correcting answers for the task they did not do. Listen to the material a few times for students to correct the answers. Go over the answers together.
