MLC Strategic Goals
In the Fall and Winter of 2004-2005, staff and Board members of the Minnesota Literacy Council worked together to create a 2005-2008 strategic plan for the organization.  Information was gathered from internal and external stakeholders and a SWOT analysis was completed.

The strategic planning process reconfirmed the MLC mission:  To share the power of learning through education, community building and advocacy.  MLC will continue to honor its core commitment to serve those in need of literacy services and to train and support literacy tutors and programs.  But to fulfill our mission we will also work toward higher quality and better integrated programming, increased literacy advocacy and strengthened community partnerships.

Completing the strategic planning process also led to the articulation of an agency vision, core values and four-year strategic goals.

Vision

MLC envisions a literate Minnesota in which residents of all ages have full access to high-quality learning and volunteer opportunities that will enable them to reach their potential and contribute fully to their communities.

Core Values

Promoting the power of learning.  We believe that lifelong learning improves lives.
Maximizing human potential.  We believe that individuals maximize their potential through teaching, learning and community involvement.
Empowering communities.  We believe we can break down barriers and build up communities by engaging individuals of all ages in educational and volunteer opportunities.
Welcoming cultural diversity.  We believe that cultural understanding creates positive learning environments.
Enhancing equality and justice.  We believe that open access to educational opportunities creates more just and peaceful communities.
Making a difference.  We believe in providing excellent opportunities for staff and volunteers to make a difference through their ideas, talents, skills and resources.

Four-Year Goals

1.  MLC will improve its visibility and reach throughout the state.
2. MLC will strengthen, diversify and stabilize its financial base.
3. MLC will integrate programming to better serve the entire family.
4. MLC will strengthen its programs in four core service areas:  ABE program support, direct student services, training and children's literacy.
5. MLC will effectively deploy technology to enhance literacy services throughout the state.
