Post-Reading Story Outline

Purpose:

To maximize comprehension by having the students reflect and summarize what they have read

 

Preparation time: 

5 minutes

 

Materials:

Reading passage; paper and pencil (optional)

                                               

Preparation:

Choose a reading passage for your students to read (or to listen to if you are going to read it to them).

 

Procedure:

  1. Pass out the reading passage and have the students read it. They can work in pairs or you can read it to them, if appropriate.
  2. When finished, ask them to answer the following questions. It can be done individually, in pairs or groups, or as a whole class:

What was the setting of the story?    

Metropolis

 

Who were the characters in the story?

Superman, Lois Lane, Jimmy

 

What is the goal of the characters in the story? 

Superman wants to save Lois and the city from the evil Lex Luther.

 

What happened in the story?

Lex Luther kidnapped Lois Lane and held her for ransom.

            Superman found Lois tied up at the top of a really tall building.

            Superman flew in and rescued Lois by using his superpowers.

 

What was the resolution of the story?

Lois and the city were saved. Everyone loves Superman.
