• 8-week, full-time service commitment
• Program Dates:  June 12-August 8, 2008
• Cannot have another job during VISTA service
• No full or part-time enrollment in an educational institution, but you can take one class if it doesn’t interfere with Summer Reads schedule.
• No absences permitted for vacation/personal time.
• Living allowance of $408 every two weeks (2007 rate). Federal taxes are taken out; state taxes are not
• $1,000 Education Award: can be used for future tuition or to repay student loans or $200 cash stipend
• Transportation reimbursement of .505 per mile by MLC for travel between sites.
• Pre-Service Orientation (June) is mandatory and must be attended before you can begin service
• Weekly in-service trainings with other Summer Reads VISTAs every Friday
• Public assistance benefits are not affected by VISTA living allowance
• All offers of employment contingent on approval of background check.
