Scanning for Items

Purpose:

To practice vocabulary; to classify items; to scan for specific information

 

Preparation time: 

15 minutes

 

Materials:  

Newspaper advertisements

                                               

Preparation:  

Gather up newspaper fliers for the items you are teaching (clothing, food, etc.). Get enough for one per person or one per pair.

 

Procedure:

  1. On the board, make a list of items the students will be scanning for. For example, if you are doing foods, a fruit, a vegetable, a meat, a snack food, etc.
  2. Distribute the fliers and have the students scan quickly for an item that fits into each category. They should note the item and the cost.
  3. As a class, compare the items and prices that the students located.
