To practice spelling, letter recognition

Materials:  

Slips of paper with words written on them; board and markers

Preparation:

Write various words on slips of paper.

Procedure:

1. Divide the class into teams (pairs or larger).
2. One member of each team goes to the board.
3. Give each team a slip of paper.
4. Each team says their word and spells it out loud letter by letter. The team member at the board writes it down.
5. Whichever team finishes their word first and writes it correctly gets a point.
6. Repeat until a team reaches the pre-determined “winning score” (10-15).
