The M & M Game

Purpose: To practice speaking; to review vocabulary

Preparation Time:  5-10 minutes

Materials:  1 large bag of M&Ms

Preparation: Think of a topic your students can speak about for each color of M&Ms in the bag. The topics might be related to units your students have done recently in class.

Procedure:

1)      Divide the students into groups of 4-5 students. This will make the game go faster than doing it as a whole class.

2)      Each student takes a handful of M&Ms.

3)      Write the colors and topics on the board.

4)      Higher level students should say one sentence on the topic for each of the M&Ms in that color. So if a student has 5 brown M&Ms and the topic for brown is transportation, the student should say 5 sentences about transportation.

5)      Each student in the group gives all of their sentences for one color before moving to the next color.

6)      Students may eat the M&Ms when they have finished.

Variations: Lower-level students should say one word related to the topic for each of the M&Ms in that color, rather than one sentence.
