True North Upward Bound (Virginia, MN)

True North Upward Bound (TNUB) is a federally-funded pre-college program serving fifty students in eight high schools in NE Minnesota.  Located at Mesabi Range Community and Technical College (MRCTC) in Virginia, MN, TNUB works to change the generational patterns that exist for low-income and potential first-generation college students.  Through innovative strategies and activities that motivate students to learn more about themselves and the world of higher education, TNUB has a proven record showing that students can indeed succeed at accomplishing anything they set out to do when given the right tools, support, encouragement, and opportunities.  Established through a federal TRiO grant in September 2003, TNUB provides critical encouragement, education, and resources needed in an effort to ensure that target area students successfully complete high school, pursue their higher education goals, and achieve a college education.

True North Upward Bound currently provides programming and activities that expose participants to a variety of cultural, educational, and social activities such as:

*college tours  *study skills workshops  *student and parent workshops  *leadership development *teambuilding activities  *service learning projects  *career exploration  *educational field trips *motivational speakers  *cultural events  *student achievement recognition  *self-discovery activities *college preparation activities
