Children’s Literacy Tutor

 

Description: Tutors provide one-on-one literacy activities and interventions to children age 3 to grade 3 who are below grade level in their reading skills. 

 

Time Commitment: 1 hour each week for the duration of the academic school year (Sept-May), with a minimum commitment of 15 weeks.

 

Qualifications: Must have basic reading and writing skills and a desire for motivating children to learn! Detailed tutor training is provided upon completion of a background check.

Special Events

 

Description: There are a variety of episodic opportunities available for Volunteers with schedules that don’t allow for a weekly commitment. Possible activities range from monthly lunch-time reading events, to helping out at an after-school parent education night, to ‘adopting’ a classroom and bringing in a literacy-related activity for the day, and many others.
