The Commitment
The Minnesota Reading Corps is an exciting statewide initiative to help every Minnesota child become a successful reader.  The initiative matches trained AmeriCorps members and volunteers to children from age three to grade three who are not reading at grade level.  Volunteering for just an hour or so per week significantly expands MRC's capacity to provide children with this individualized tutoring.

The Training
MRC volunteers receive training in literacy tutoring strategies before working with students.  Pre-K training focuses on early

literacy skills and integrating reading, writing, and talking into all activities.  K-3 training focuses on specific reading skills, called Interventions, which reinforce skills students need in order to decode and comprehend text.

The Power!
Caring volunteers trained to work with students on specific literacy skills are a powerful presence in the lives of students learning to read.  Your time, patience and smiles can make all the difference in literacy success of students in your community.
