Volunteer Opportunities
There are many rewarding volunteer opportunities at the MLC.  A volunteer might lead a class, work one-to-one with learners, direct small group activities, or assist a classroom teacher.

Please read below for basic descriptions of the most common volunteer opportunities.

Reading, Writing and GED Tutor

  • Help English-speaking adults and advanced ESL learners improve reading and writing skills
  • Help adult learners achieve real-life goals such as obtaining a driver’s license, getting a job, or reading to their children
  • Assist adult learners with earning their GED or diploma by studying math, science, social studies, writing, and reading
  • Attend a Reading, Writing and GED Tutor pre-service training

English as a Second Language (ESL) Tutor

  • Help adults learn basic English speaking, reading and writing skills
  • Attend an ESL Tutor pre-service training

Technology Coach

  • Teach adult learners how to acquire basic computer skills to increase their employability
  • Assist in a computer lab with a group of adult learners under the supervision of a teacher
  • Attend an ESL Tutor pre-service training and technology in-service workshop

Citizenship Tutor

  • Help refugees and immigrants learn English, history, and civics in order to pass the U.S. Naturalization Test
  • Tutor one-to-one, in a small group, or assist a teacher
  • Attend an ESL Tutor pre-service training, and citizenship in-service workshops

Administrative Support Assistant

  • Assist Site Coordinators with student intake, testing, and other administrative needs
  • Call adult learners to follow-up
  • Help manage important program data related to program reporting
