Awards Luncheon

MLC's Awards Luncheon recognizes successful learners, notable partners in literacy and outstanding volunteers for their hours of high-quality service to literacy programs (for nomination forms, please see links below). The awards honor various achievements:

  • Outstanding Volunteer Awards are for those who contribute a high quality and quantity of volunteer service that is unique, innovative, and creative.
  • Oustanding Learner Awards are for learners who have made a unique, innovative or creative impact on adult literacy and have a strong dedication to service as a volunteer and a leader among peers.
  • Volunteer Service Awards are for ABE volunteers who have reached the 1,000-hour tutoring milestone and shown a dedication to voluntary service to adult literacy.
  • Community Partnership Awards are for organizations, funders and ad hoc committees that have positively influenced adult literacy in Minnesota. Contributions should be unique, innovative, or creative and show dedication through length of service and the depth of partnership with an ABE program.
  • Essi Wiseheart Ledyard Awards are for volunteers who are sixty-plus in age and have demonstrated creativity and extra commitment in working with learners. The award honors Essi Wiseheart Ledyard (1918-2003), who was Duluth's ABE Coordinator from 1978 to 1990, and continued her involvement with the program until 2002. She retired as Minnesota's oldest active teacher at the age of 84.

The Awards Luncheon will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2008.
